Trump says Russia's diesel industry weakened amid Ukraine conflict
President Donald Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Russia has lost control of its diesel oil sector and urged an energy truce during their meeting at the UN General Assembly.
President Donald Trump is expected to press Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to accept an energy truce with Russia during a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The leaders are also slated to discuss additional air-defence assistance for Kyiv ahead of winter, Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, and steps toward ending the more than four-year war.
In a post on his social-media platform on Monday, Trump said a "large number" of Russian diesel refineries had been "blown up" and were temporarily out of commission, though he offered no specific figures. He added that the conflict is causing global fuel-price spikes, linking disruptions in Ukraine and Iran to record-high U.S. diesel prices.
"These attacks are hurting the world," Trump said, referring to the drone strikes on Russian facilities.
A Russian embassy spokesperson in London did not respond to requests for comment.
