Trump's approval drops to 32% as Republicans grow skeptical of cost-of-living handling
A Reuters/Ipsos poll shows President Donald Trump's overall approval at 32%, with Republican support falling to 73% and only 17% approving his handling of the cost of living amid the Iran conflict.
President Donald Trump’s overall approval rating fell to 32% in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, the lowest level recorded during his tenure. Support among Republican voters declined to 73%, down from 82% a week earlier, while only 17% of respondents said they approved of his handling of the cost of living, the issue most voters said would influence their November ballot.
The poll, conducted online over four days and covering 1,277 U.S. adults, also found that 51% of Republicans disapproved of Trump’s cost-of-living policies, compared with 44% who approved. The same survey showed 34% of respondents approved of the ongoing strikes on Iran, a conflict that has pushed gasoline and diesel prices higher and is expected to continue for an extended period.
"The conflict would likely go on for an extended period of time," the poll reported, reflecting the view of 82% of respondents, including a majority of Democrats and three-quarters of Republicans.
When asked about party preference for the upcoming midterm elections, 43% of voters said they would choose Democrats over 35% for Republicans, marking the widest Democratic lead in Reuters/Ipsos polling this year. The poll also noted that while 79% of Republicans continue to back Trump on immigration, only 36% of the overall public supports his approach.
The findings come as Trump, who took office in January 2025 promising to curb inflation and end foreign wars, faces growing criticism within his own party over economic issues and the Iran war, which has disrupted global oil supplies and contributed to higher fuel costs.
