Nvidia CEO says AI poses no existential threat by 2030

Resumen

Jensen Huang told CBS News that there is no chance AI will end the world by 2030 and called alarmist predictions irresponsible, urging reliance on existing legal frameworks.

Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang told CBS News on Friday that he believes artificial intelligence will not cause human extinction within the next decade, stating that "2030 is not going to be the end of the world. There is 0% chance that's going to be the end of the world."

He described warnings about AI-driven doomsday scenarios as unnecessary and not based on scientific evidence, adding that scaring the public is irresponsible. Huang said Nvidia’s success depends on the safe deployment of its products, noting that failure to do so would diminish the company’s value.

The CEO argued that existing legal frameworks governing cybersecurity and corporate liability should serve as the primary safeguards for AI, rather than new regulations.

"Apply that first – don't let this doomsday narrative allow someone to relieve them of the laws that currently exist," he said.

Huang also said he hopes to discuss global AI standards with Chinese President Xi Jinping, emphasizing that both nations seek to benefit from AI development. He reiterated that chip manufacturers should compete globally and serve worldwide markets.

The remarks come as several technology leaders, including OpenAI chief Sam Altman and Apple executive Tim Cook, are expected to attend a state dinner hosted by President Donald Trump for President Xi.
