Colorado Rep. Boebert Faces New Ethics Complaint Alleging Improper Relationship with Staffer
A sworn complaint accuses Rep. Lauren Boebert of a sexual relationship with her district director and of arranging a $200,000 payment to silence the staffer, which Boebert's office denies as a politically motivated claim.
A sworn filing submitted to the House Ethics Committee alleges that Rep. Lauren Boebert had a sexual relationship with her longtime district director, Clarice Navarro, and that Boebert arranged a $200,000 payment to prevent Navarro from filing a separate ethics complaint. Navarro has denied the allegations, calling them false and defamatory. The complaint also cites a statement from Navarro's ex-husband, who said he "assumed this would eventually surface."
Boebert's office responded that she is heterosexual and described the allegations as a politically motivated effort to manipulate the ethics process and generate headlines. The filing was made by David Wheeler of American Muckrakers, who has previously made unverified claims about Boebert, including a 2022 allegation that she worked as a paid escort. Boebert's spokesperson characterized Wheeler as an activist who repeatedly recycles sensational claims that have been fact-checked as false.
