Mahomes and Walker lead Chiefs to overtime win over Colts

Resumen

Kansas City defeated Indianapolis 33-30 in overtime after a 22-yard pass to Kenneth Walker III set up a game-winning field goal.

Kansas City rallied in overtime on Sunday night to beat Indianapolis 33-30, improving to 2-0 on the season. After both teams exchanged field goals in the extra period, the Chiefs drove into field-goal range, highlighted by a 22-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes to running back Kenneth Walker III. Harrison Butker then converted a 40-yard field goal as time expired to secure the victory.

The Colts had tied the game at 27-27 late in the fourth quarter following a second touchdown run by Jonathan Taylor. Indianapolis forced a fumble by Laquon Treadwell that was later overturned on replay, giving Kansas City another possession and the chance to win.

Mahomes finished the first half completing 14 of 19 passes for 138 yards and touchdowns to Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy. He added a third-quarter touchdown to Jalen Royals, extending Kansas City's lead before Indianapolis responded with a fourth-quarter drive that culminated in Taylor’s tying score.

In overtime, Mahomes connected with Tyquan Thornton for 30 yards, and Kelce secured a first down that set up Butker’s initial field-goal attempt, which missed. After Indianapolis’ replay-reviewed fumble, the Colts settled for a tying field goal, giving Kansas City another chance. Walker’s 22-yard reception moved the ball into range, and Butker’s successful kick ended the game.

"We stayed focused and executed when it mattered," Mahomes said after the win.

The result marks Kansas City's first overtime victory of the season and ends a stretch of close losses from the previous year.
