Father of Massachusetts Triple-Murder Victims Discusses Grief and Postpartum Mental-Health Debate

Resumen

Patrick Clancy spoke about his experience after his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy was tried for killing their three children, emphasizing the need to focus on perinatal mental-health issues and describing his personal coping efforts.

Patrick Clancy, whose ex-wife Lindsay Clancy faced a trial in Massachusetts for the deaths of their three children, appeared on a televised interview to describe his attempts to rebuild his life amid intense public scrutiny. He said he first noticed his wife’s severe sleep deprivation and depression in October 2022, months after the birth of their youngest child, Callan. Clancy recalled that Lindsay was admitted to a postpartum-depression program and later to McLean Psychiatric Hospital, but was released shortly before the tragedy on Jan. 24, 2023, when the children were found dead and Lindsay survived with self-inflicted injuries.

Clancy recounted holding his infant son for four days as doctors worked to revive him, and later writing tributes to each child while he held Callan in his arms. He said he forgave Lindsay, attributing her actions to mental illness rather than malice, and noted that she never asked for forgiveness. After the incident, Clancy moved from Duxbury, Massachusetts, to New York City, where he kept personal items of his children and later married fertility doctor Rachel Danis.

During Lindsay’s trial, which ended with a hung jury, Clancy said he faced a wave of online speculation that portrayed him negatively. He described the experience as harmful to his children’s memory and a distraction from the broader issue of perinatal mental health. Clancy also said he sought support from postpartum-health organizations and mental-health professionals, which helped him process the tragedy. He and Danis have begun a new family and plan to share the story of his late children with their future child.

Both Patrick and Lindsay Clancy have filed lawsuits alleging medical-malpractice against providers involved in her care. Lindsay remains detained at Tewksbury Hospital while authorities consider a possible retrial.
