Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell shines as Kentucky upsets Texas A&M in Week 3
Alabama's Keelon Russell posted a four-touchdown performance in a comeback win over Florida State, while Kentucky defeated Texas A&M, marking a top-10 upset in college football's third week.
Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell delivered a breakout performance in the Crimson Tide's 31-24 victory over Florida State on Saturday. After trailing by 15 points in the second quarter, Russell accounted for three touchdowns in a 2:36 span and added a 57-yard rushing score in the third, finishing with 320 passing yards, 56 rushing yards and four total touchdowns. The Dallas native's showing helped Alabama, ranked No. 10, regain the lead and hold on for the win.
Kentucky secured a surprise 28-18 win against No. 9 Texas A&M on the road, giving the Wildcats their first top-10 victory under head coach Will Stein. Kentucky's offense, led by transfers Kenny Minchey and CJ Baxter, built a 28-7 halftime advantage and maintained control despite an early missed field goal by the Aggies.
In other notable games, Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss threw for 173 yards and a touchdown in a 17-0 halftime lead over No. 7 LSU, while Louisville defeated No. 16 SMU 41-31, taking command of the ACC race. Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith set a new school record with 2,958 career receiving yards, surpassing Michael Jenkins.
Conversely, NC State lost to Vanderbilt 35-31 after a last-second defensive mishap, and Texas A&M's playoff hopes were dented by the loss to Kentucky. Several matchups, including Florida State-Alabama and Clemson-North Carolina, experienced weather delays that disrupted schedules.
