Trump proposes new name for AI and announces plans for an AI Force
President Donald Trump suggested renaming artificial intelligence and said he will create an AI Force and appoint an AI "Czar".
President Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform on Saturday to argue that the term "Artificial Intelligence" is misleading and to solicit a new name for the technology. He posted a poll offering "Superior Intelligence," "Extreme Intelligence" and "Supreme Intelligence" as alternatives.
He also claimed that concerns about AI safety are part of a series of Democratic hoaxes, listing topics such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, global warming and impeachment investigations. Trump said he would not allow what he described as a "crazed Data Center attack" to continue and vowed to protect the AI industry.
"I will cherish the AI industry, help it, and watch over it as it grows," Trump wrote, adding that he plans to establish an "AI Force" similar to the Space Force and to appoint an "AI Czar" for the effort.
The president did not provide details on the proposed AI Force or the responsibilities of the AI Czar. Earlier this year, venture capitalist David Sacks stepped down from his role as Trump’s AI and crypto czar.
The comments come amid heightened debate over AI safety, following statements from researchers and executives at leading AI firms about potential risks and calls for regulatory safeguards.
