Trump announces creation of an "AI Force" and plans to appoint an AI czar

Resumen

President Donald Trump said he will establish an "AI Force" and appoint an AI czar, emphasizing continued growth of artificial intelligence in the United States while dismissing concerns about existential risks.

President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform that his administration will create an "AI Force" to support the development of artificial intelligence in the United States. He said the initiative will be modeled after the Space Force created during his first term and that an "AI czar" will be appointed to oversee the effort.

Trump described artificial intelligence as the next industrial revolution, comparable to the internet, and suggested it could contribute up to 25% of the nation’s gross domestic product as the United States competes with China. He said the existing criminal and civil justice system would be used to address any wrongdoing associated with AI.

"We will not in any way hinder or stifle the growth of this industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!"

He also dismissed warnings that advanced AI could become a superintelligence threatening humanity, calling such fears a hoax. The former president referenced the recent departure of David Sacks, who served as the White House AI and Crypto czar, noting that Sacks had previously said concerns about AI risks were overstated while acknowledging the need for caution.

The announcement comes amid ongoing debate among experts about the potential risks of self-improving AI systems and calls for regulatory oversight.
