Yankees move Aaron Judge to 10-day injured list with calf strain

Résumé

Aaron Judge will miss at least ten days after the Yankees placed him on the injured list due to a right calf strain, adding to a season already affected by multiple injuries.

The New York Yankees announced that outfielder Aaron Judge will be placed on the 10-day injured list because of a right calf strain. The move is scheduled for tomorrow and could be backdated to September 17, allowing a possible return for the final regular-season game on September 27, though his health at that point remains uncertain.

Judge last appeared in a game on September 16, after returning from an early-June stint on the injured list for a stress fracture in his right first rib. He was reinstated on September 7 and played limited action before the latest leg issue.

The Yankees remain in contention for a Wild Card spot in the American League, sitting five games behind the Tampa Bay Rays with ten games left and 5.5 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox, who hold the second Wild Card position. The team’s immediate lineup will adjust, with Cody Bellinger expected to start in left field, Spencer Jones taking over as regular center fielder, and Heliot Ramos likely covering right field against left-handed pitching. Jasson Domínguez, currently on an optional assignment, could be recalled to provide depth.

Judge has struggled offensively since returning from injury, posting a .174/.208/.304 slash line in 24 plate appearances and striking out in 13 of those at a 54.2% rate. The lingering calf issue could affect his performance if he returns for the postseason, which begins with the Wild Card round on September 29.
