Holdout juror in Lindsay Clancy murder trial says he had no doubts as jury deadlocked

Résumé

Michael P. Desronvil, the sole juror to vote guilty in the Lindsay Clancy case, said he was convinced of the defendant's guilt, while the jury remained split 11-1, leading to a mistrial.

The only juror to vote guilty in the trial of former nurse Lindsay Clancy, who is charged with the 2023 deaths of her three children, told NewsNation that he had "no doubts" about her culpability. Desronvil, 48, said he repeatedly tried to discuss alternative theories during deliberations but was interrupted, and that the physical evidence, key witnesses and the prosecution’s case convinced him that Clancy acted deliberately.

Clancy has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder by reason of insanity, with her defense asserting she suffered postpartum psychosis. After nearly six weeks of trial and about 40 hours of jury deliberation over seven days, the jury remained deadlocked at 11-1, prompting the judge to declare a mistrial.

Other jurors have spoken publicly about the deliberations. Jury foreperson Roni Carlson told NBC10 that the holdout juror "admitted he had reasonable doubt" and that she began completing the required forms for a verdict. Kellie Farina described the difficulty of reconciling the evidence of the killings, while Paula Devlin criticized the holdout juror’s demeanor.

Desronvil’s attorney, Edward Andrew Paltzik, issued a statement on X defending his client’s privacy and warning against attempts to contact him. Media reports have highlighted Desronvil’s own legal background, noting a 2021 domestic-violence charge, an active civil restraining order related to an alleged assault on his nephew, and pending eviction proceedings at the time of the trial.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not yet indicated whether a retrial will be pursued. Clancy’s lawyer, Kevin Reddington, said he will request that the next jury be sequestered.
