Holdout juror maintains certainty in Lindsay Clancy murder trial deliberations

Résumé

Juror Michael Desronvil, the sole holdout in the Lindsay Clancy case, said he had no doubts about the defendant's criminal responsibility, while the jury remained deadlocked, leading to a mistrial.

Juror Michael Desronvil, the only holdout in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, told a spokesperson that he "didn't have any doubts" about the evidence linking Clancy to the deaths of her three children. He said he attempted to present alternative theories during deliberations but was repeatedly cut off, and that the physical evidence, key witnesses and the prosecution's case convinced him that Clancy knowingly planned the killings.

The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict after seven days of deliberations, with a split reported as 10-2 in favor of a guilty finding and 11-1 favoring a not-responsible verdict. Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on September 4.

Former juror Paula Devlin told a morning news program that the panel tried to persuade the holdout juror to change his stance, but he remained steadfast. Attorney Edward Andrew Paltzik announced on social media that he is now representing Desronvil, who is being kept at an undisclosed location for safety.

Desronvil has faced online criticism and was previously accused of domestic violence in 2021, a charge that was later dismissed after he pleaded not guilty. Legal analyst Caroline Polisi noted that the key issue is whether Desronvil disclosed the allegation on his juror questionnaire, though the mistrial may limit any further impact.

District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not indicated whether the state will pursue a retrial. The next court appearance is set for September 29 at Plymouth Superior Court.
