Juilliard Issues Apology After Initially Denying Julia Stiles' Attendance

Résumé

The Juilliard School retracted a prior statement that actress Julia Stiles never attended the conservatory, issuing an apology and a playful note following her appearance on Dancing with the Stars.

Actress Julia Stiles, currently competing on Dancing with the Stars with partner Ezra Sosa, was the subject of a correction from The Juilliard School after the institution initially announced that she had never been a student there. The school later posted a note addressed to Stiles and Sosa in a TikTok video on September 17, stating that a clerical error had placed her alumni record under the name Sarah Johnson and offering an apology. The message also expressed support for the contestants' participation in the dance competition. The earlier denial had been posted ahead of the season 35 premiere of the show.

"Dear Julia, with our apologies for the clerical error, your alumni file was found under the name Sarah Johnson," the note read. The school’s follow-up referenced a line from Stiles' 2001 film "Save the Last Dance," adding a light-hearted comment about her dancing abilities.
