Rams coach Sean McVay says team unlikely to return to Australia after loss
After a 27-7 defeat to the 49ers in their first game in Australia, Rams head coach Sean McVay expressed hopes the franchise will not be scheduled for another overseas matchup.
The Los Angeles Rams suffered a 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in their inaugural game played in Australia last week. Head coach Sean McVay said the experience highlighted logistical challenges and indicated the team would prefer not to travel to Australia again.
"It’s almost like you try to do the Men in Black thing where you say, ‘Hey, I don’t remember what happened. That was so long ago,’" McVay told reporters on Thursday. "We’re not playing in Australia ever again, I hope. Not because it wasn’t a great atmosphere, that’ll get taken out of context."
McVay noted that arriving in the country only a day before the game proved to be a miscalculation, adding that the team must now focus on the remainder of the 17-game season. The Rams open their next matchup on Monday night against the New York Giants at SoFi Stadium.
"Bottom line is, I like the way that I feel of our preparation, eyes moving forward, chest out, chin up, eyes forward, and let’s go be about it. Let’s go prepare the right way. Let’s have great focus and concentration. Let’s have a great energy and an edge in which we prepare and compete and then let’s go be ready to go against a really good football team," McVay said.
The Rams will look to rebound as they continue their schedule, while Giants fans in the Los Angeles area anticipate the upcoming prime-time game.
