Detroit captain Dylan Larkin discusses trade request and future with Red Wings

Resumen

Captain Dylan Larkin said his trade request was difficult and not impulsive, affirmed his professionalism, and expressed a desire to regain teammates' trust as Detroit navigates leadership changes.

Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said he asked for a trade and understands the consequences, pledging to remain professional. The 30-year-old center, who has spent his entire 11-year NHL career with the club and ranks 10th in franchise history with 643 points, said the decision was not made lightly and that he is not yet ready to discuss details.

Larkin, a Detroit native, noted that competitive differences are common in any organization and praised former general manager Steve Yzerman for his leadership, adding that he has learned a great deal from him. Yzerman confirmed that Larkin’s agent submitted a trade request with a short list of potential destinations, but said the team could not guarantee a deal and that limiting the market might affect the return the Red Wings receive.

The Red Wings announced that Yzerman will move from general manager to senior adviser, and assistant general manager Shawn Horcoff will serve as interim GM while a new leader is sought. Horcoff said the organization has had “good talks” with Larkin and will handle the situation privately.

Larkin said he has spoken with teammates and will work to earn back their trust, emphasizing that the request was not motivated by them. Teammate J.T. Compher said the players will keep the conversation private and expect the same commitment from Larkin as from any roster member.

Coach Todd McLellan acknowledged the uncertainty but expressed confidence in the locker-room environment and Larkin’s determination to contribute on the ice. The Red Wings open the season against the New York Rangers on Oct. 2.
