California officials respond to rumors of Paramount's possible relocation to Nashville
California Attorney General Rob Bonta said the state will enforce the law and remain open to negotiations as reports circulate that Paramount may move some operations to Nashville, Tennessee.
Los Angeles officials are monitoring reports that Paramount could shift part of its operations to Nashville, Tennessee. The studio has reportedly examined more than 400,000 square feet of space in the city, while other locations such as Texas and Georgia are also being considered, according to insiders.
Paramount declined to comment when approached for a statement. The California Attorney General's office said it could not comment on corporate plans but emphasized that the state will continue to enforce the law without bias and is willing to engage in good-faith discussions if the company seeks them.
"We have a job to enforce the law without fear and without favor, and we are always open to come to the table if it is in good faith," Bonta told MS NOW. He added that any decision to relocate would be the company's independent choice.
The remarks come amid an antitrust lawsuit filed in July by Bonta and 11 other state attorneys general seeking to block Paramount's proposed merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. The lawsuit alleges the merger could reduce competition in film distribution and cable services. Paramount CEO David Ellison has indicated that a settlement is needed by Oct. 1, otherwise the studio may consider moving out of California.
