Nvidia CEO predicts chip sales to double and urges AI safety at Scottish summit
Jensen Huang told leaders at a summit in Scotland that Nvidia expects to sell twice as many chips next year and called on AI firms to prioritize safety testing.
Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang addressed a gathering of technology leaders in Scotland, saying the company expects its chip sales to double in the coming year. He linked the projected growth to increased investment by governments and enterprises in AI-focused data centers and infrastructure.
Huang warned that AI developers must ensure products are fully tested before release, stating, "It is the responsibility of the AI companies ourselves to develop the technology safely and to properly test it." He added that unfinished systems should be held back, even as companies race to market.
The executive suggested that existing regulatory frameworks for sectors such as healthcare and transportation could be adapted to govern AI, rather than creating entirely new legislation. He also acknowledged concerns about the energy consumption of large AI data centers, arguing that the demand could drive further investment in sustainable power sources.
"We want to be responsible in advancing the technology," Huang said, emphasizing accountability while highlighting the potential economic benefits of AI.
