Summary

Composer and singer Duncan Sheik was reported to be in critical but stable condition, according to a statement posted on his Instagram page, while his upcoming Off-Broadway productions remain scheduled.

Composer and singer Duncan Sheik, whose new musical Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen is set to open Off-Broadway later this month and whose 2006 Broadway hit Spring Awakening is slated for an Off-Broadway revival in November, has been hospitalized in critical but stable condition. The family’s statement posted on Sheik’s Instagram said he is receiving medical care and that no further details will be released at this time. It also requested privacy and thanked fans for their support.

Sheik’s recent Instagram posts indicated he was in a New York City hospital, mentioning boredom and a hoped-for discharge within 60 hours. No cause for his hospitalization was disclosed.

The upcoming productions are proceeding as planned. The Spring Awakening revival, directed by Danya Taymor, will begin previews at Studio Seaview on Nov. 27 with an official opening on Dec. 17, featuring a cast that includes Amalia Yoo as Ilse. Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen, adapted from a manga graphic novel and directed by Rob Ashford, will start performances at The Night Egg in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood on Sept. 25, with an opening night on Oct. 15 starring Sophia Anne Caruso.

Representatives for the productions were contacted for comment, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
