Lena Dunham Announces Birth of Daughter via Surrogate
The actress and writer confirmed that she and husband Luis Felber welcomed a daughter born through surrogacy, sharing details in a Vogue op-ed.
Lena Dunham and her husband, musician Luis Felber, announced the arrival of their daughter, who was born via surrogate, in an essay published in Vogue on Wednesday. The 40-year-old, who married Felber in 2021, has previously spoken publicly about her fertility challenges, including severe endometriosis, a hysterectomy in 2017 and an unsuccessful IVF cycle documented in her 2026 memoir "Famesick" and a 2020 Harper's Magazine piece.
In the Vogue article, Dunham described the process of selecting a surrogate and noted that she was on a book tour while the surrogate was seven months pregnant. She indicated that the birth occurred around August 12, after the surrogate’s pregnancy extended 13 days beyond the expected date.
"My husband was better at the waiting, but he hadn’t spent the last 12 years circling the fertility drain," Dunham wrote.
"I sat on a hospital bed, between the legs of a woman I hadn’t known for a year, waiting for a glimpse of this person who I had been waiting for with something related to patience, but also none at all," she added.
The piece also included commentary on her preferred children's clothing brands, but did not disclose the baby’s name or exact birth details.
