Amazon to End Prime Invitee Program, Introduces Amazon Family for Household Benefit Sharing
Amazon is discontinuing its Prime Invitee program, which allowed members to share free shipping with individuals outside their household, and is introducing Amazon Family to facilitate benefit sharing within the same residence.
Amazon has announced the termination of its Prime Invitee program, effective October 1, 2025. This program previously allowed Prime members to share free shipping benefits with individuals residing outside their household. In its place, Amazon is introducing Amazon Family, a new initiative designed to enable benefit sharing exclusively among members of the same household.
Under Amazon Family, Prime members can share benefits with one other adult in their household, up to four teens (added before April 7, 2025), and up to four child profiles. These benefits include free two-day shipping, access to Prime Video, Amazon Music, and other services. An Amazon spokesperson stated that the additional adult could be a spouse, family member, or roommate.
To assist users affected by the discontinuation of the Prime Invitee program, Amazon is offering a discounted Prime membership. Eligible individuals can subscribe for one year at $14.99, with the offer available from September 5, 2025, through December 31, 2025. After the first year, the standard membership fee of $14.99 per month or $139 annually will apply.
This change aligns with Amazon's ongoing investments to expand its delivery network, aiming to provide faster service to customers in less densely populated areas across the United States. As of late July, the company reported that its enhanced delivery service is available in 1,000 of the more than 4,000 smaller cities, towns, and rural communities targeted for expansion by the end of the year.
