NFL bars former LSU players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris from 2026 season

The league announced that tight end Dae'Quan Wright and defensive tackle Zxavian Harris are ineligible to sign with or try out for NFL teams in 2026 after their brief stints in NFL training camps and an attempted return to LSU.

The NFL issued a memo to all clubs stating that tight end Dae'Quan Wright and defensive tackle Zxavian Harris are ineligible to visit, try out with, or be signed by any team during the 2026 season. The notice clarified that the restriction applies only to these two players and does not cover all draft-eligible athletes who returned to college.

Wright, who went undrafted in April and spent the offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns, and Harris, who was with the New Orleans Saints, were waived last month. They then sought to rejoin LSU after a court injunction temporarily allowed certain players to return for another college season. LSU head coach Lane Kiffin said the school was prepared to recruit them if the rulings permitted.

Both players were omitted from LSU’s roster for the opening game against Clemson, and the team filled its 105-man limit with other recruits before the second game, ending any chance of adding Wright or Harris. Their attorney, Ryan Downton, indicated they are exploring legal options.

"Wright is looking at his legal options right now and we will have more to say in the near future," said agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Because they have already been eligible for the draft, the memo notes that Wright and Harris will become free agents after the 2026 season, leaving them without a team to play for this year.
