Fantasy football Week 2 matchup rankings highlight key players and defenses

Resumen

ESPN's fantasy analysts rank the most and least favorable matchups for quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends in Week 2, noting Dak Prescott, David Montgomery, Terry McLaurin and Travis Kelce as top options.

ESPN’s fantasy staff released its Week 2 matchup rankings, evaluating all 32 NFL defenses for each of the four skill positions based on adjusted fantasy points allowed. The rankings combine the analysts’ assessment with ESPN projections and include 2025 season data for context.

At quarterback, Dak Prescott (Dallas) is identified as a favorable start against the Washington Commanders, who allowed 20.12 fantasy points to Jalen Hurts in Week 1 and have struggled against Prescott historically. Brock Purdy (San Francisco) and C.J. Stroud (Houston) are also noted as good options, while Joe Burrow (Cincinnati) faces a tougher test against the Houston defense that performed well against Josh Allen’s mobility.

Running back David Montgomery (Houston) receives a strong recommendation against the Cincinnati defense, which gave up 19 yards and two touchdowns on goal-to-go plays last week. Other backs to consider include Jadarian Price (Seattle) and Jordan Mason (Minnesota). Cam Skattebo (New York) is flagged as a risky play against the Los Angeles Rams, a defense that limited top-scoring backs last season.

Wide receiver Terry McLaurin (Washington) is highlighted as a top choice against the Dallas Cowboys, a matchup that has become more favorable after recent personnel changes in Dallas. Mike Evans (San Francisco) and DeVonta Smith (Philadelphia) are also listed as attractive options, while Parker Washington (Jacksonville) is advised against facing a Broncos secondary anchored by Pat Surtain II.

At tight end, veteran Travis Kelce (Kansas City) remains a solid start against the Indianapolis Colts, who were the eighth-worst schedule-adjusted defense against the position last season and allowed 8.9 fantasy points to Mark Andrews in Week 1.

The analysts caution that matchup data is only one factor in weekly start-sit decisions and recommend consulting the full weekly rankings for a comprehensive view.
