Lena Dunham and Luis Felber welcome first child via surrogate
The actress and her husband announced the birth of their daughter, conceived through surrogacy, in a Vogue op-ed.
Lena Dunham and her husband Luis Felber have become parents to a daughter born through surrogacy, the couple announced in an op-ed published by Vogue. The 40-year-old creator of "Girls" and her husband, also 40, were married in September 2021.
Dunham, who has spoken publicly about her struggle with endometriosis and a hysterectomy she underwent to manage chronic pain, said the experience reshaped her view of family building. > "It’s interesting because the framing is that you make a choice to do this, but if you’re in pain 24 hours a day, it isn’t really a choice because no one can live like that," she told the Today show in April. > "The amazing thing is, since then, I have met so many people who built their families in so many different ways, and I have really come to a place where I feel really excited. Whatever way it happens, I will feel so grateful."
In a July interview with The Times, Dunham described the hysterectomy as both a grief and a relief and explained that the couple were "expanding our family in new ways" to safely meet their children.
