John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell star in Martin McDonagh's new CIA drama "Wild Horse Nine"
Veteran actors John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell play CIA operatives in Martin McDonagh’s darkly comic film set against the backdrop of the 1973 Chilean coup.
Veteran actors John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell have been cast as CIA agents in Martin McDonagh’s latest film, "Wild Horse Nine." The darkly comic drama is set in the weeks leading up to the 1973 Chilean coup and follows the two operatives as they travel from Santiago to Easter Island on a critical mission. Malkovich plays Chris, a terminally ill agent whose possible involvement in a presidential assassination raises the stakes, while Rockwell portrays Lee, tasked with keeping his outspoken partner under control.
The project marks the first collaboration between the two actors, who are known for a range of memorable roles, and reunites McDonagh with his signature blend of humor and political intrigue.
"The story is about the absurdity of power and the moral compromises made by those who serve it," a spokesperson for the film said.
"Wild Horse Nine" is slated for release later this year.
