Quarterback Arch Manning issued an apology after joking about an AI-generated video that appeared to show coach Steve Sarkisian slapping ESPN reporter Holly Rowe, acknowledging the remark was insensitive.

Quarterback Arch Manning of the Texas Longhorns apologized on Tuesday for a remark he made during a press conference about an artificial-intelligence video that depicted head coach Steve Sarkisian slapping ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe. The comment, which Manning delivered with laughter, referenced a fabricated clip that circulated on social media after Texas defeated Ohio State.

Manning posted an Instagram Story stating, "In my press conference yesterday, I made an insensitive comment about an AI video. There is nothing funny about it. It’s easy to say I didn’t mean it, but I know my words and actions were hurtful to a lot of people. I do not take that lightly and am deeply sorry for that." He added a direct apology to Rowe, expressing respect for her and acknowledging the need to be more thoughtful.

Rowe responded on social media, "I appreciate our conversation about this which will remain private. Apology accepted. We move forward with respect and kindness for one another."

The incident began when Sarkisian avoided a halftime interview with ESPN and later left a post-game interview area, prompting the creation of the AI edit. Texas reporter Evan Vieth, who initially shared the video, also issued an apology for presenting the clip.

Manning, 22, is a senior quarterback and a highly regarded NFL prospect, while Rowe, 60, is a veteran ESPN reporter who has covered major sports events and received the Curt Gowdy Electronic Media Award.
