Apple TV+ comedy "Widow's Bay" breaks Emmy record with 14 wins

"Widow's Bay," Apple TV+'s horror-comedy series, concluded the Emmy weekend with a total of 14 awards, eclipsing the 13 won by "The Studio" the prior year. The series earned eight trophies at the Creative Arts ceremony and six more during the main telecast, drawn from 19 nominations.

The top honor, Outstanding Comedy Series, was awarded to "Widow's Bay" over competitors including "Abbott Elementary," "The Bear," "Hacks," "Margo’s Got Money Troubles," "Nobody Wants This," "Only Murders in the Building" and "Shrinking," the latter having set a record for nominations.

"Just personally, I have to quickly thank my mom for always making Halloween fun," creator Katie Dippold said while accepting the award. "Also, this group was such a great collaboration of the best, wonderful weirdos and artists. These writers, these producers, these amazing actors, these directors."

"Hiro [Murai], thank you again. God, the editors. I'm going to name everyone. The cinematographer. It's just a wonderful group. Thank you, Apple, for letting us take this crazy, creative swing. They truly just let us do this weird show, and we can't thank you enough," Dippold added, also thanking "the evil entity on the island that trusted us with its story."

The ceremony also recognized Matthew Rhys as Lead Comedy Actor, Kate O’Flynn as Supporting Actress, Stephen Root as Supporting Actor, Hiro Murai as Director—a first for an Asian director—and awarded Dippold for writing the premiere episode. Additional Creative Arts wins included Guest Actress Betty Gilpin, as well as production design, casting, cinematography, music composition, music supervision, sound editing and sound mixing.

The 2024 Emmy nominations were led by "The Pitt" with 25 nods, followed by "Hacks," "Widow's Bay" and "Beef."
