FBI Director Kash Patel to testify at Senate Judiciary oversight hearing

Ամփոփում

FBI Director Kash Patel will appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee for an oversight hearing, facing calls for his removal and expected to highlight crime-rate trends and counter-terrorism efforts.

FBI Director Kash Patel is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday at 9 a.m. The hearing follows criticism from the committee’s ranking Democrat, Sen. Dick Durbin, who said Patel lacks the experience, judgment and temperament to lead the bureau and should be replaced immediately. The criticism stems from a May report in The Atlantic that alleged Patel had episodes of excessive drinking and performance issues, claims Patel has denied and for which he sued the publication seeking $250 million in damages.

During the testimony, Patel is expected to cite a decline in overall violent crime, noting a 9.3% drop from 2024 to 2025, and to emphasize increases in violent-crime arrests and gang-member apprehensions. He will also discuss the FBI’s counter-terrorism work, information-sharing initiatives with law-enforcement partners, and steps taken to reduce bureaucratic hurdles within the agency.
