Trump calls AI safety concerns a hoax during surprise call with Nvidia CEO
President Donald Trump told Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang that fears about artificial intelligence are unfounded, while tech leaders called for slower development and stronger safeguards.
President Donald Trump placed a surprise call to Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang during the All-In Summit in Los Angeles, putting the president on speakerphone for the audience. Trump said AI-related warnings are "a hoax" and argued that data centers generate wealth and will be a major economic driver for the next two decades.
"I’m telling you, it’s all a hoax. The data centers are great, and they make people wealthy, and they make states wealthy, and it's the oil of the next 20–25 years," Trump said.
He added that critics of AI development are helping political opponents and foreign rivals, and dismissed the notion that autonomous systems could threaten humanity.
"The robots are not going to be taking over the world," he said.
Trump also posted on his social-media platform defending AI progress and rejecting calls for tighter regulation.
The remarks came as several leading AI executives urged caution. Anthropic founder Dario Amodei published an essay urging the industry to slow the pace of frontier AI work and to strengthen safeguards against misuse, cyber-attacks, and economic disruption. OpenAI chief Sam Altman and SpaceX founder Elon Musk publicly supported Amodei’s call for a more measured approach.
Nvidia did not respond to requests for comment.
