Private-equity firm BC Partners withdraws planned $300 million funding for LIV Golf

सारांश

BC Partners has abandoned a proposed $300 million investment in LIV Golf, raising the likelihood that the league will enter liquidation after missing a player-commitment deadline.

BC Partners, the private-equity firm that had been preparing to provide up to $300 million to fund a relaunched version of LIV Golf, announced it will not proceed with the financing plan. The decision follows the lapse of an October 25 deadline for player commitments, leaving the league without the capital needed to move forward.

The funding shortfall comes after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrew its backing, having previously invested more than $5 billion in the league. Without BC Partners’ support, LIV Golf is expected to seek court approval to liquidate its remaining assets, with a hearing set for Thursday in a New Jersey bankruptcy court.

LIV Golf filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September, outlining a plan to reorganize and return with a reduced schedule in 2027, contingent on securing sufficient player participation. Reports indicate roughly 30 players had signed on for the proposed 2027 season, with another 10 undecided, a level deemed insufficient by BC Partners.

Former LIV players, including Jon Rahm, have returned to the DP World Tour, which has announced that any golfer remaining with LIV will no longer be eligible for its events. Rahm described his three years with LIV as “a positive, wonderful experience” when asked at a DP World Tour event in Abu Dhabi.

The league’s future remains uncertain as it faces potential liquidation and the loss of its most prominent players.
