Trump links Lincoln Memorial pool revamp to midterm message as Democrats win
The Guardian reported that on November 4, President Donald Trump held a press briefing at the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool, criticized previous administrations over algae growth, and announced policy shifts as Democrats secured key victories in the midterm elections. Later, comedians Jon Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers mocked his remarks and highlighted Democratic congresswoman Haley Stevens' last-minute endorsement of Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan, according to The Guardian. The reopening of the reflecting pool had also been used by Trump in a speech to call for national unity and warn of a possible Democratic takeover of Congress, News18 reported.
The Independent noted that Trump spent about an hour at the memorial discussing the refurbishment and warning voters against Democratic candidates. The Guardian had initially announced the $14 million renovation's completion and warned that the upcoming midterms were critical for his party.
