Miami Leads Inaugural 2026 CFP Rankings as Notre Dame Falls to No 11
The College Football Playoff selection committee released its inaugural 2026 rankings on 27 October, placing undefeated Miami at No. 1 and moving Notre Dame down to No. 11 despite a higher AP ranking, highlighting the committee’s emphasis on strength of schedule. A report on 4 November confirmed these placements.
Earlier speculation suggested Miami and Georgia would lead the first rankings. Yahoo Sports noted the committee was set to unveil the list, and CBS Sports forecast Miami as the top team with Kentucky as a surprise top-four contender. Subsequent CBS coverage reported Miami and Georgia occupying the top two spots, and the committee’s own release reiterated Miami’s No. 1 position.
