Home Minister Amit Shah Calls on Rahul Gandhi to Debate in Parliament

摘要

Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged Rahul Gandhi to take his challenge for a debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Parliament, while criticizing Congress over calls for the election chief's resignation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded to Rahul Gandhi's recent invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a public debate by urging the opposition leader to bring the discussion to Parliament. Speaking at a rally in Karnal, Haryana, Shah said, "I want to challenge Rahul Gandhi directly. You challenge PM Modi for a discussion? If you want a discussion, simply write a letter to PM Modi. We are ready to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the SIR exercise...Come and debate in Parliament."

Shah referenced Gandhi's November 3 post on X, in which the Congress leader asked for a debate on accusations of anti-national activities and alleged foreign connections. The minister also attacked Congress for demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, arguing that the party has repeatedly lost elections despite any Special Intensive Revision (SIR) measures in 2014, 2019 and 2024.

He added that the BJP’s supporters would provide a "fitting reply" if Gandhi continues to organize street rallies, and claimed that public sentiment has consistently rejected the Congress, noting low attendance at a recent gathering in Delhi. Shah concluded by saying that as Leader of the Opposition, Gandhi should disclose details of his foreign visits, stating, "People have the right to know."
