Pat McAfee criticizes University of Utah after College GameDay appearance
ESPN’s Pat McAfee said he was uncomfortable with a student-made Instagram video posted by the University of Utah during his College GameDay broadcast and expressed no desire to return.
ESPN personality Pat McAfee said his recent College GameDay appearance at the University of Utah was marred by a student-produced Instagram video that mocked him. The video, which has since been removed, featured a student asking for an impression of McAfee and included comments calling him “corny” and “creepy.”
“I’ve enjoyed this college football season — did not enjoy the University of Utah. Did not enjoy it,” McAfee said on his show.
He described the post as “weird” and said it created an “uncomfortable feeling” when he arrived on set. McAfee added that the university’s use of the video felt like an “infomercial” for the school and that he had not seen similar treatment before.
The former college football player also noted a separate incident during a “Kicking is Easy” contest, where a student compared a $3 million prize offered to a BYU participant with a $1 million prize for a Utah student, implying the latter was undervalued.
The University of Utah did not immediately respond to requests for comment. McAfee concluded that he would likely not return to Salt Lake City for future College GameDay events.
