Airbnb to Ban Labor-Intensive Checkout Demands Starting Nov. 20

Resumen

Airbnb will prohibit hosts from requiring guests to perform extensive chores such as stripping beds or washing dishes before checkout, and will require all rules to be disclosed at booking.

Airbnb announced that, effective Nov. 20, hosts will no longer be permitted to require guests to complete labor-intensive tasks before checkout, including stripping beds, hauling trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes. The company said guests have found such requirements "confusing, onerous and hard to manage" and argued they belong to professional cleaners covered by cleaning fees.

Under the new policy, hosts also cannot add surprise rules after a reservation is made, limit the use of advertised amenities, or impose additional penalties for damage, which Airbnb says is already covered by its AirCover protection. All house rules must be visible in the listing at the time of booking.

Hosts may still request modest actions, such as placing used dishes in the sink, gathering used towels, and sorting trash and recycling into designated indoor bins.
