Actress Christina Applegate Says New Tests Show She Was Misdiagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis
Christina Applegate announced on her podcast that recent testing indicates she does not have multiple sclerosis, leaving her health condition uncertain.
Actress Christina Applegate disclosed on her MeSsy podcast that recent medical testing has revealed she was misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). The 54-year-old, who was first diagnosed with the autoimmune disease in 2021, said the new findings leave her "back at square one" regarding her health.
"It’s hard to say that my doctor came into my room and said, ‘Congratulations, you don’t have MS,’" Applegate said.
She added that while she exhibits many symptoms commonly associated with MS, doctors are now looking for an alternative explanation. "There’s a high number of misdiagnoses with MS, so this is not a rare occurrence," she noted.
Applegate, who retired from acting in 2022 after the final season of the Netflix series Dead to Me, described her reaction as a state of shock and said the news has been confusing and unsettling. She also mentioned ongoing challenges with chronic pain and mobility, noting that she still uses a wheelchair for certain trips.
Despite the health setbacks, Applegate said she continues to maintain a daily routine that includes taking her 15-year-old daughter, Sadie, to school and activities, describing it as a cherished part of her day.
The actress is scheduled to release a memoir, You With The Sad Eyes, later this year.
