Commuters call for safety after Midtown subway shooting kills guard
Commuters at the 53rd Street-Seventh Avenue station said they are worried about a rise in subway gun violence and urged city officials to boost security after a fatal shooting on Oct 17. Police said a man in his 30s was shot and killed on the northbound E-train platform that day, and they released surveillance images of a suspect while continuing the search. The victim was later identified as 26-year-old Darrel Rodriguez, a Bronx security guard, who was pronounced dead at a city hospital.
