Netflix cuts 1,000 jobs, film VP Doug Belgrad among those dismissed

Summary

Netflix is eliminating about 1,000 positions, roughly 6% of its staff, and film vice president Doug Belgrad was among the executives let go during the restructuring.

Netflix announced a workforce reduction of approximately 1,000 employees, representing about 6% of its total staff. The cuts affect teams across product, technology, legal and human resources, according to co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters, who communicated the changes to employees on Wednesday morning.

The restructuring also resulted in the departure of Doug Belgrad, who had been hired as the streaming service’s film vice president in May 2024. Belgrad, previously a long-time Sony executive, oversaw Netflix’s original film slate and recently launched Ben Affleck’s crime thriller “Animals.” Variety confirmed that Sheroum Kim, Netflix’s director of film, was also dismissed.

In an internal memo, the co-CEOs said, "> Decisions like these are never easy, and we don’t take them lightly. Our top priority today is to support those who are leaving Netflix. The process will vary somewhat by country, but leaders will be connecting with impacted employees soon. If you are leaving, please know that we will support you throughout this transition and make sure you have as much clarity and context as possible. We also want to say thank you. What you’ve built, and the care you brought to Netflix, have made a lasting difference and we will always be grateful." Netflix declined to comment further.
