The Los Angeles Rams waived second-year placekicker Harrison Mevis following a blocked 48-yard field-goal attempt in overtime loss to Buffalo, and announced veteran Blake Grupe as his replacement.

The Los Angeles Rams released second-year placekicker Harrison Mevis on Tuesday, a day after his 48-yard field-goal attempt was blocked in overtime, costing the team a 37-34 defeat to the Buffalo Bills. Mevis, who had converted 12 of 13 field-goal attempts and all 39 extra points this season, missed four of his nine attempts overall and had not made a field goal beyond 50 yards since the previous week.

"I felt like I hit it good," Mevis said after the miss.

Rams head coach Sean McVay said the kicking game was “not even close to good enough” and that the missed attempt “cost us the game tonight.” He added that he would evaluate all aspects of the team’s performance.

"I'm sick that we came up short, and I'll be regretting kicking that and not having a better call to be able to go for it on third down and go to fourth or whatever it was," McVay said.

The Rams, who have used five different kickers in the five seasons since their 2021 Super Bowl win, will bring in veteran Blake Grupe from the New York Jets’ practice squad. Grupe has previously played for the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts and has hit 81.9% of his career field-goal attempts, including 19-for-27 from beyond 50 yards.
