Erie police identify shooter, describe filthy home after eight deaths
Erie police said the shooter, identified as Matthew Stone, killed eight people in his home on Perry Street and then took his own life, describing the house as extremely filthy, with non-functioning plumbing and bottles filled with urine. Earlier reports had said nine victims were killed, including children, but later investigations clarified the death toll at eight.
The 45-year-old gunman, a family patriarch related to most of the victims, was linked to the killings after a standoff at the residence. Authorities have not released a motive and continue to investigate.
