Josh Hoover Leads Indiana to Late Comeback Over Nebraska
Quarterback Josh Hoover rallied Indiana from a 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to secure a 20-17 win at Nebraska, highlighting his ability to perform under pressure.
Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover engineered a fourth-quarter comeback against Nebraska, turning a 17-6 hole into a 20-17 victory in Lincoln. Despite completing only 12 of 22 passes in windy conditions, Hoover connected on a 75-yard touchdown pass to tight end Nick Marsh on the first play after Nebraska took the lead, followed by a 44-yard touchdown pass to Marsh on a fourth-and-2 play that gave the Hoosiers their first lead.
Nebraska dominated time of possession, running 83 plays to Indiana’s 44, but managed only six points before a 39-yard quarterback run by Anthony Colandrea put the Huskers ahead with 12 minutes left. Indiana’s defense forced a subsequent punt, setting up the decisive offensive series.
Coach Curt Cignetti, who emphasized defensive strength in the offseason, praised Hoover’s composure, noting that the quarterback’s ability to recover from early inaccuracies demonstrated the short-memory mindset required in clutch situations.
The win marked Indiana’s first road victory over Nebraska since the Hoosiers’ national championship season, reinforcing confidence in Hoover’s capacity to fill the role of former Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza.
