South Carolina Senate debate pits Graham against Andrews amid Trump attacks
NBC News reported that Republican Sen. Darline Graham and Democratic challenger Annie Andrews sparred in a televised debate in South Carolina over President Donald Trump’s tax bill, gas prices, the war in Iran and policy on AI data centers.
Earlier, President Donald Trump used a derogatory term to criticize Andrews on Truth Social, which CNN described as a transphobic slur and NBC News said prompted condemnation from political figures and advocacy groups. The Bulwark noted that the race has become narrowly competitive, leading Republican super-PACs to increase spending, and CNN added that Graham, appointed after her brother’s death, was trailing Andrews in recent polls.
