Washington governor demands full ferry service after engineer sickout
Governor Bob Ferguson urged that all Washington State Ferries be back in service by morning after a sudden sickout of 23 marine engineers halted most routes on Oct 3. The shortage left the agency unable to operate 13 of its 18 vessels, forcing the cancellation or reduction of service on most Puget Sound routes, including connections between Seattle and Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Mukilteo and other communities. The engineer walkout on forced the cancellation or limitation of service on 13 of the system’s 18 vessels, affecting 72% of the fleet and disrupting travel across the region.
