Government Responds to Glastonbury Chants Broadcast on BBC

The government has issued a statement regarding chants made at Glastonbury Festival by rap punk duo Bob Vylan. The chants, which included references to the Israeli military, were broadcast live on the BBC.

Rapper Bobby Vylan led chants of "free, free Palestine" and "death, death to the IDF [Israel Defense Forces]" during the performance, which took place before Belfast rap trio Kneecap appeared on stage.

A BBC spokesperson stated that some of the comments were considered "deeply offensive" and noted that an on-screen warning had been issued about "very strong and discriminatory language." The performance will not be available for replay on BBC iPlayer.

Police have indicated that they are reviewing video recordings of comments made by Bob Vylan and Kneecap to determine if any offences occurred.

The festival released a statement:

"Glastonbury Festival does not condone hate speech or incitement to violence of any kind from its performers."
