FDA expands recall of Walmart, Trader Joe's frozen berries over E. coli risk
The U. S. Food and Drug Administration announced an expanded recall of certain Great Value and Trader Joe's frozen berry products after laboratory tests linked them to the E. coli O145 strain, affecting stores in dozens of states. The agency said the contamination risk prompted the broader action, which supersedes earlier limited recalls.
Earlier, scrippsnews. com reported that the recall was widened to include additional lots of frozen organic blueberries and berry blends sold at Walmart and Trader Joe's, and WKRC noted that the expanded recall now covered products sold in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. The recall originated with a Chilean supplier that had already broadened its recall of frozen organic berries sold at the two retailers after an E. coli outbreak sickened 17 people, six of whom were hospitalized, according to Fox Business.
