Marcus Mariota sidelined with MCL sprain after loss to Colts

Resumen

Quarterback Marcus Mariota suffered an MCL sprain in the first quarter of the team's Week 4 loss in London and will miss upcoming action, opening the door for rookie Athan Kaliakmanis to see more playing time.

Quarterback Marcus Mariota was forced out of the first quarter of the team's Week 4 game in London after sustaining an MCL sprain, according to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler. The injury, which also affected Mariota during the preseason, ended his participation in the 27-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Mariota, who had started two of his three appearances this season and posted a 64.7% completion rate for 340 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions, had previously led the offense to a victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.

Rookie quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, who entered the game after Mariota's exit, completed 15 of 33 passes for 186 yards, recording one touchdown and one interception. If starter Jayden Daniels remains unavailable for Week 5, Kaliakmanis could receive additional snaps.

"We’re disappointed to lose Marcus, but we’ll rely on the depth we have at quarterback," a team spokesperson said.
