Casey Bloys Chosen to Lead Merged Paramount-Warner Bros. Streaming Operations
HBO executive Casey Bloys will assume control of the combined Paramount+ and HBO Max streaming businesses after Paramount direct-to-consumer chief Cindy Holland announced her departure.
HBO’s head of content, Casey Bloys, is set to oversee the streaming assets of the pending Paramount-Warner Bros. merger following the exit of Paramount’s direct-to-consumer chair, Cindy Holland. Bloys, who has managed HBO Max since 2020, indicated he would only accept a role that reports directly to the new company’s owner, David Ellison, and that encompasses his current responsibilities across Warner Bros. Discovery’s consumer platforms.
Industry sources said Ellison faced a choice between retaining both Bloys and Holland, but the merged entity, burdened by roughly $80 billion of debt, needs a single streaming strategy to avoid internal competition and reduce costs. Holland, who joined Ellison after a long tenure at Netflix and helped revitalize Paramount+, is leaving the company, acknowledging Ellison’s focus on HBO stability in her farewell memo.
The merger, still subject to legal challenges, has been cleared by a settlement with multiple state attorneys general, paving the way for integration. Analysts expect HBO Max and Paramount+ to continue operating as separate services in the short term, possibly being offered as a bundled package while the two organizations are combined.
Bloys’ expanded portfolio will include upcoming titles such as the Taylor Sheridan series “Landman,” “Dutton Ranch,” “Tulsa King,” and the final season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.” Insiders suggest the programming of the two services may increasingly overlap under Bloys’ leadership.
“If you’re going to do this, you should have one person guiding the strategy, and that means you’re not having any confusion with who’s being pitched and where shows are going,” said an industry insider.
Bloys’ appointment is viewed as a move to provide clear direction for the merged streaming business and to reassure investors and partners of continuity in content strategy.
