ASU hockey community calls for coaches’ leave after player’s heatstroke
According to WESH, the family and teammates of Arizona State University hockey player Matthew Mayich called for the coaches involved to be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation after Mayich remained hospitalized from an exertional heat-stroke incident. The request was made as the university continued to support the player’s family.
Earlier, seven players had asked university president Michael Crow to suspend head coach Greg Powers and to allow an external probe of the preseason workout that left Mayich in a vegetative state. The university subsequently placed Powers on administrative leave, saying it would support the family and investigate the circumstances.
