Police Use Tear Gas at Paris High School Amid Nationwide Student Protests
French riot police deployed tear gas at the Lycée Hélène Boucher in Paris on 8 October, arresting dozens of students as the nationwide student protests over education funding continued. The demonstrations, which began in late September, have drawn around a quarter-million participants in cities across the country and prompted the closure of more than 400 schools. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu cancelled his ministerial trips and called an emergency meeting, while authorities reported dozens of injuries among students, teachers and police and several hundred arrests.
