Natalia Silva defends UFC flyweight title, rebuts Shevchenko criticism

Sports

MMA Fighting reported that Natalia Silva defended the UFC women’s flyweight title in Utah on October 7, 2026, and used the platform to respond to Valentina Shevchenko’s comments, stating she intends to defend the belt early next year against leading contenders. Silva had won the vacant 125-pound championship at UFC 332 in Salt Lake City on September 26, 2026, after Valentina Shevchenko withdrew because of injury, prompting analysts to question whether the event should have been a numbered pay-per-view (MMA Fighting). ESPN had earlier announced that Silva and Wang Cong would contest the vacant title, marking the first UFC event of 2026 headlined by women, and CBS Sports noted the title fight was arranged following Shevchenko’s injury.
