Google announces Chromebook upgrades to new Googlebook OS with support through 2034
Google said in Mountain View, California, that select recent Chromebook models will be eligible to migrate to its upcoming Googlebook operating system, and that ChromeOS will continue receiving updates until mid-2034. The announcement follows earlier confirmation that ChromeOS updates will be supported through 2034 and that many eligible devices can shift to the new OS.
Earlier, Google unveiled the Googlebook laptop line, priced from $899 to $1,299, featuring full desktop Chrome, Linux support and a promise of ten years of software updates. The company also detailed a new Chromebook lineup in partnership with five major manufacturers—Acer, HP, Lenovo, ASUS and Dell—and noted that pricing for several models had fallen below $1,300 ahead of the October 4 launch.
